Engineered for Reliability, Safety
and Legal Compliance

At Facility Servicing Group, we see perimeter security as your first line of defense, but it’s the safety of your people that truly matters. Our "Safety First" approach is more than a motto; it’s an engineering promise. We ensure every installation is fully compliant with the latest UK safety regulations, so you never have to worry about the "what ifs."

We design bespoke systems using industrial-grade components—like heavy-duty bearings and smart PLCs—that keep your gates running smoothly in any weather. Even during a power outage, our secure manual overrides ensure your site stays accessible and safe.

For us, compliance is about more than a certificate—it’s about preventing failure before it happens. We follow strict industry codes (like DHF TS 013 and BS EN 12453) to build systems that protect lives as well as property. Every FSG system includes:

  • Precision Safety Edges & Photocells: To keep pathways clear and prevent accidents.
  • Mechanical End Stops: To ensure your gates stay sturdy and aligned, cycle after cycle.
  • Force Testing & Risk Assessments: To verify that every movement is gentle and within legal limits.
  • Complete Documentation: Giving you a clear, easy-to-follow audit trail for total peace of mind.

The Critical Role of Maintenance

Safety technology is only effective if it is maintained. Whether it is a commercial site with high traffic or a domestic driveway, neglecting service is where risks—and legal liabilities—begin. We advocate for a "proactive, not reactive" approach to prevent household users or staff from bypassing safety measures.

  • Commercial Installations: Required every 6 months to handle heavy duty-cycles and workplace safety requirements.

  • Domestic Installations: Required every 12 months (or sooner depending on traffic flow) to protect residents and young people from the hidden dangers of automated machinery.

At Facility Servicing Group, we believe that consistent feedback and technical performance are the "breakfast of champions." By combining a comprehensive risk assessment with a dedicated maintenance schedule, we ensure your automated systems remain a secure asset, rather than a legal liability.

Frequently Asked Questions

You have other questions?

Our team will answer all your questions promptly.

Yes. For commercial properties, it falls under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Workplace (Health, Safety & Welfare) Regulations 1992. For domestic properties, the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 apply. If a gate is not maintained and causes injury, the owner or "person in control" of the gate can be held legally liable and face prosecution.
Maintenance frequency depends on usage and environment:
  • - Commercial/Industrial Sites: Must be serviced every 6 months due to high traffic volumes and workplace safety obligations.
  • - Domestic Properties: Should be serviced every 12 months. However, if the gate is used frequently or is located in a harsh environment (e.g., coastal areas), we recommend more frequent checks.
Many systems fail because safety features were either never installed or have been bypassed. Common issues include:
  • - Missing or faulty safety edges and photocells.
  • - A lack of physical end stops.
  • - Excessive force settings that can crush or entrap.
  • - Ignored technical faults or lack of compliance documentation.
Force testing is a critical part of our maintenance visit. We use specialized equipment to measure the amount of force the gate exerts if it hits an obstruction. This ensures the system stays within the limits set by BS EN 12453, ensuring that the gate will stop and reverse safely before causing injury.
Automated gates are classified as "machines" in the eyes of the law. Maintenance must be carried out by a competent person with the correct technical knowledge and calibrated testing equipment. "DIY" maintenance often leads to safety features being bypassed, which invalidates insurance and increases the risk of serious accidents.
Every compliant gate should have a Technical File. This includes a Risk Assessment, a Declaration of Conformity, and a Service Logbook. At Facility Servicing Group, we provide full compliance documentation with every installation and service, giving you a clear legal audit trail.
